Meet Susan Engelhardt and Beth Herbert
Our 2025 candidates for Flemington Borough Council.

A New Jersey native and Flemington Borough resident for twenty-five years, Susan Monaco Engelhardt is married to her high school sweetheart, Jason, and is the enthusiastically proud mother of two sons, Aaron and Noah.
Before serving on council, Susan served as the Vice-Chair of the Flemington Borough’s Planning Board/Board of Adjustments, where she had been concurrently appointed by four mayors spanning 15 years, and appointed to four master plan and redevelopment committees.
Her masters studies focused on planning law and regional planning, and she is an accredited sustainable design professional. This unique background inspires her to find compromises for responsible development within legal and ordinance parameters, while simultaneously respecting and sustaining our beautiful National Historic District and important storm water parameters.
Susan holds a Masters of Architecture degree from Savannah College of Art and Design and has worked for thirty years as a Project Manager and Associate with architecture and construction development firms. Her portfolio focuses on K-12 and collegiate education facilities, multifamily housing, publicly owned and mixed-use retail projects throughout the country.
Responsible for the management of several successful public referendums, dozens of master plans, hundreds of educational projects, multiple county safety and park facilities, and the construction of over 5,000 housing units, Susan specializes in preparing public bid documents, technical product specifications, and navigating regulatory agency approvals including NJEDA, NJDCA, and NJDoE.
In addition to being committee members on the Georgia American Institute of Architects (AIA), and national architectural accreditation board for Howard University, she has spoken at minority contractor seminars, school board conventions, published sustainability and education articles in professional journals and produced a Women in Architecture documentary for the National AIA convention.
Susan hopes to continue her work encouraging community engagement, park improvements, grant opportunities, and streamlining the current zoning and ordinance regulations. She is humbled to be seek reelection to the Flemington Borough Council and looking forward to speaking with all her neighbors the next few months.

Beth is running for Flemington Borough Council to continue the town’s revitalization while preserving the charm, history, and community spirit that make it feel like home. She believes in smart growth—ensuring Flemington thrives as a welcoming, vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family.
Born in New Jersey, Beth grew up moving frequently but never found a true hometown—until she came to Flemington. She and her family chose to put down roots here in 2020, drawn by the borough’s walkable downtown, strong schools, and the potential for a bright future. She and her husband live in a historic home on Broad Street with their daughter, son, and two Norwegian Buhund dogs. On weekends, you’ll often find her enjoying coffee on Stangl Road, shopping on Main Street, or knitting with friends at Lone Eagle’s Sips ‘N’ Stitches.
With over 20 years as a manager and leader, Beth specializes in building high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, and turning vision into action. Her work in the public sector—including with the New Jersey Department of Education—has given her insight into the challenges and opportunities facing communities like Flemington. She knows when to roll up her sleeves and when to delegate, and she values productive conversations where diverse perspectives come together to find solutions.
Beth is committed to growing Flemington’s tax base by supporting small businesses and attracting new opportunities—while ensuring that growth enhances the borough’s historic character and tight-knit community. She believes revitalization isn’t just about new buildings; it’s about strong schools, smooth roads, thriving businesses, and a Main Street full of life.
Above all, Beth values love, connection, and community. She sees Flemington as a place where neighbors support one another, where history meets progress, and where families can build a future. She’s excited to bring her experience, energy, and vision to Borough Council to help ensure Flemington remains a place where everyone belongs.
